Butter Naan in Pressure Cooker

Pressure Cooker Butter Naan Recipe or How to make butter naan in Pressure Cooker

Hi People,

Now yesterday I posted my blog regarding recipe of Adana Kebab which I made along with amazingly soft Butter Naans. I have been getting requests for recipe of Butter Naans and especially to how to make them without oven or say in Pressure Cooker.

Yes, that is how I made them, in your humble Pressure Cooker. It just clicked me on the go because I do not have an oven, I have a microwave with convection which off course does not do the job of a typical oven. So, my innovative mind thought of trying just one naan in pressure cooker and then actually, I made them all in it. Today, I had it with Dal Makhani. But then they say best marriage of Butter Naan's is with Butter Chicken. Check recipe for Butter Chicken here.

Off course, equipment if not the only thing here, the dough is super important too. What goes in the dough makes it super soft.

Now, you can make variety of naans this way. Like you can just put some coriander on naan before cooking. Or you can make minced garlic to make garlic naan or even stuff it and roll it to make some stuffed naan.

What I have shared here is the basic naan recipe and how to make it soft. Do play around and enjoy and don't forget to thank me.

Pressure Cooker Butter Naan, easiest way to make Naans at home.

Prep time:

Total time:
Yield: Serves 4

Ingredients(For 10-12 naans):
400 grams maida or all purpose flour. 100 gram for flouring.
2 table spoons active yeast.
1 teaspoon sugar
1 egg
100 grams curd
1 table spoon Desi Ghee or Clarified Butter.
Half tablespoon salt

  1. First of all, activate the yeast. To do this warm some water, add sugar and yeast in it. Mix and let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Sugar acts as activating agent for yeast and yeast needs heat, that is why warm water. Keep this near stove or in some warm place for it to get activated properly and become frothy.
  2. Once it is frothy, add the flour, curd, egg, ghee and salt. You can skip egg if you want to.
  3. Now, get your hands dirty and make a sticky dough. Keep flouring your hands and kneading it.
  4. Dough has to be sticky and not hard because only sticky dough will ensure naans are soft. It should still be sticking to your hands.
  5. Now, cover it with foil and let it rest for proofing in a warm place. If you keep it in a cool place, yeast will not work. What I did was left it overnight. It came out more than double in size. But if you keep it for 3-4 hours, should be good enough.
  6. Once it has increased in size, knead it again for some time.
  7. Now roll them on counter in any shape that you want.
  8. Sprinkle coriander and press with hands.
  9. Apply very little oil on the inside surface of pressure cooker, just to coat it. if you put too much, naan will not stick.
  10. Now put naan in pressure cooker like you see in picture below.
  11. Now turn the cooker upside down on the burner and cook for 3-4 minutes on low heat. Time may vary depending upon burner strength so keep that in mind.
  12. Once cooked, take it out and just cook it directly on flame for few seconds to make it crisp on both sides. This step is not mandatory but need based provided naans are not brown.
  13. Lavishly rub butter on it to make it Butter Naan.
