Black Forest Cake

Black Forest Cake Recipe

Hey Friends,

This is Bhavna here this time. I am sure you must be getting a lot of non-veg recipes from Raj which he cooks up every weekend. I am the one who does the meetha stuff. LOL.

So, while he was cooking Rogan Josh, I decided to do this class Black Forest Cake recipe.

I like baking cakes and pudding and making all the desserts which we love after gorging on what Raj cooks. Though I have baked so many cakes and puddings and other stuff. I thought of sharing the wonderful home made cake recipe. It is basic but the joy of baking is what makes it special. You do everything on your own, right from the batter to icing and to layering. Just the passion makes it special.

I will just get on to the recipe here. Normally, you would use cherries in this but I did not have it. You can use cherries because that is the classic way.

Sponge Cake:

  1. 2 cup all -purpose flour
  2. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  3. 6 tablespoon cocoa powder
  4. 1.5 cup sugar
  5. 1 cup oil
  6. 2 cup water (normal temp)
  7. 2 tablespoon lemon
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

  1. 1/3 cup maida
  2. 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  3. 3/4 cup milk
  4. 2 sticks butter

For garnishing

  1. Cherries / Jam
  2. Sugar syrup
  3. Dark Chocolate

Cake -

  1. Pre heat oven at 180 degree Celsius.
  2. Sieve all the dry ingredients. Keep aside
  3. Take water and sugar and mix well so that the sugar dissolves.
  4. Pour in the oil , lemon juice and vanilla essence , Mix well
  5. Put the dry ingredients and mix well to combine all without having any lumps to get a smooth batter.
  6. The batter will be thin not very thick.
  7. Pour the batter in the greased tin/ mould in which the cake is to be baked. Tap it well from sides to remove any bubbles.
  8. Bake for 30-40 mins in the preheated oven. Or till a inserted toothpick comes clean
  1. Take the flour and sugar and pour in the milk. Set on low flame and keep stirring continuously till the mixture is thick and smooth.
  2. Let it cool. Once cooled, put the butter and blend well to get a smooth and creamy frosting.
  3. Put in the refrigerator for a while

Preparing the layers

  1. Once the cake cools down, cut the cake in the middle having to layers now.
  2. Pour the sugar syrup in the lower most layer, then cover the layer with the frosting. Put the cherries all over or little drops of jam whichever is available.
  3. Put the top layer on top of this.
  4. Cover the top layer with the remaining frosting prepared.
  5. Put some cherries/ jam droplets  to garnish on top.
  6. Peel off a dark chocolate with peeler and put over the cake for final finish.

Your Black Forest cake is ready to be digged into. Slurrp!!!
